Gartner Poll Reveals Top CIO Priorities for 2022

Priorities—Every great tech leader needs to have them in order. Amid the need for multiple areas of focus, what are CIOs prioritizing in 2022? A Gartner Peer Insights poll takes the pulse on trends and sentiment from top CIOs.

Top highlights from the poll include:

Lots of great stuff there, but let’s look at the budget since inflation is going to be a big problem for most companies amid an almost certain economic slowdown this year. Most CIOs (59%) are not expecting an IT budget change in 2022, although 30% do expect an increase, compared to 10% who expect a decrease. Of those CIOs who do expect a budget increase in 2022, 50% expect an increase of greater than 5%.
 
“2022 will be a challenge from the point of view of budget restrictions,” one CIO told a discussion group on the Peer Insights platform. “High inflation can have a negative impact on the budget and plans,” said another.
